MoU signed between the Glocal Forum and the Addis Ababa University for the "We Are The Future Program"

 Glocalization

The Glocal Forum and the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in the city’s "We Are the Future Program". The University (AAU), the oldest higher education institution in Ethiopia, was founded in 1950, and offers diploma and degree programs, including Bachelor and Masters Degrees, Speciality Certificates and PhD programs.

AAU and the Glocal Forum share the same views of the value of youth empowerment as a means of education and peacebuilding, and so they have agreed to cooperate on a program to train youths aged 15 to 24 years in health, nutrition, arts, sports and ICT. The youth will then go on to teach younger children in the city’s We Are the Future (WAF) child center.

WAF is a worldwide effort designed to assist children in conflict and post-conflict areas by addressing their basic needs through programs in the five sectors above, to help heal the wounds of conflict. The core of the program is the creation of child centers in six pilot cities (Addis Ababa, Asmara, Freetown, Kabul, Kigali, and Nablus), in each of which more than 100 youth will be trained to work with over 1,000 children.

The Glocal Forum is working with the support of various public and private partners to establish these child centers as hubs to provide a holistic service for the children and youth. The Addis Ababa WAF Centeralready has a telecenter where youth can acquire basic IT skills. The MoU will facilitate the creation of activities and workshops for youth participating in the WAF activities, helping to empower them and  pass key skills on to some of the city’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged young children.
